When He Rode Down the Elevator From the Top Floor

Bruce F. Carter, ® All Rights Reserved 2024

He is with the elite,

It is him that they adore.

But then one day he abandons them,

When he rides the elevator down from the top floor.

//

He is the cat’s meow, the man of the hour,

He has his own TV show.

But when he rides down to help the common man,

It is him the elite don’t want to know.

//

So popular, so admired,

They so want to be like him.

But when he rides the elevator down,

It is his mortal sin.

//

Oh little woman, oh forgotten man,

Is it possible you are seen?

Is there really a person from the ranks above,

Who respects you, who works with you,

And says he is on your team?

//

It doesn’t take long for that one man’s song,

To reach them with the right notes.

And when it comes to an election time,

He receives their supporting votes:

//

How dare he abandon us,

And prevent the crowning of our queen!

The elite would lash back

With a hatred never before seen.

//

He is so brash, talks the common man‘s trash,

Gives back what the elite deserves.

For he ticks them off, when he speaks the truth,

And hits on all the right nerves.

//

The names come out, their crimes become known,

The corruption runs so deep.

The money pours in from around the world,

Those secrets they can no longer keep.

//

He is defeated, the elites have won, now he will go away,

But the forgotten man remembers him,

They come out in greater numbers,

When he returns to fight for another day.

//

And the ghost of Goebbels returns,

Long told lies become true, and dislike turns to hate.

As the election nears, the forgotten man cheers,

And the country awaits its fate.

//

Will a new Queen be crowned or will she go down?

Will history repeat itself?

We all have to wait for that November date

To see what the people say.

Should he live that long, for the elite want him gone-

Yes, it is for him we have to pray.

//

Now the date is here, will it be cry or cheer.

What will Providence have to say?

Many hours are gone as the night wears on,

Nerves are on edge.

Would it be the Republicans or Democrats

Who walk out on the presidential ledge?

//

The music plays, plans are made,

Two ballrooms they are filled.

But as the votes come in, one side will win,

While the other will be chilled.

//

Oh the mystery of history,

The story forever will be told.

Of the man coming down the elevator -

A man so brave and bold.

//
